Watts decided to expand the promotion to a national level after years of operating as one of the top American wrestling regions. By doing so, Watts joined a gang of promoters who were vying to become the WWF’s main rival. The newly renamed Universal Wrestling Federation was able to get a syndication arrangement, which let the show to air in significant American cities.

Even though the shows were enthusiastically appreciated, Watts just lacked the distribution to compete with the WWF and Jim Crockett Promotions, which had effectively established itself as the WWF’s main rival.

Despite having a limited audience (about seven states), Smoky Mountain gained a sizable following because to its traditional booking. Cornette claimed that his goal was to produce a wrestling company that represented the sport in the manner in which actual wrestling fans preferred to see it. When he was unable to get a good TV agreement, Cornette ultimately decided to cancel the promotion and go back to WWE.

LUCHA UNDERGROUND

There was a significant possibility for Lucha Underground to become the next great thing in professional wrestling, but it was unable to get beyond that obstacle. Although Lucha Underground was intended to be a TV program, it only reached a small number of households because it was shown on El Rey Network. The program was all shot at once and distributed in seasons because they had to generate money. They did minimal travelling.

They began to lose wrestlers as a result. Since TV programs did not have a regular release schedule and contracts prohibited wrestlers under contract to Lucha Underground from working for anybody else, numerous wrestlers found themselves without a means of support. Fans of the bizarre wrestling show Lucha Underground fell in love with it after four seasons and even a Netflix release, but a fifth season now appears impossible, and Lucha Underground may be over.
